Working Retreats
We offer you the chance to come and stay at Mumonkan and help out with the projects and retreats we are working on. A Mumonkan working retreat is your chance to live in a beautiful tranquil place, far removed from your normal life, from the television, the office, the stress and the busy city life. Here everything slows down and there is a chance to stop and remember your vital being that you are. Amongst these remote mountains you can enjoy the endless peace, be immersed in nature, and make wonderful new friends.
You will be given the chance to help out with the garden, or forest, perhaps work on our mud (cob) cottage construction, or work in the kitchen. There are plenty of things to be done and enjoyed here at the centre.
A working retreat consists of five hours of physical work and 4 periods of contemplation or meditation a day. One day a week is set aside as a retreat day. During group retreats, work retreatants can participate in the group schedule as their work allows.
Mumonkan centre has a number of work retreat places through our scheduled retreats and also special working retreat weeks where we offer places for up to 20 people. See below for scheduled working retreats.
It is an opportunity to relax, refresh, recover, inspire and perhaps go beyond. Each of us, at times needs to get away and for this purpose we offer the open retreat. For some it is a get-away from the business of modern life, for others it is a life-changing experience they never forget. A working retreat is also a good way to meet new friends.
Each day we eat together and work together, we have fun and laughter and enjoy our wonderful time together. For those who wish to mediate there is a round meditation room but there is no need to feel compelled. There may be informal talks you can attend and at times teachers will be at the centre.
We ask you join us in the spirit of openness, of kindness and with a spirit of humility. In this way we support each other and remove any boundaries that may prevent each person finding what they need.
Retreats are held at our mountain retreat centre in Las Alpujarras, Granada, Spain. There are 3 hectares of open wild countryside, a circular meditation room and comfortable dormitories.
We will schedule and number of weeks each year when you can come and help out at the centre. See below for the date of next working retreat.
